Welcome!

Greetings, and thank you for finding your way to our blog.

Here, we will attempt to provide both useful and entertaining information for you, the friends and family that will hopefully be attending our wedding.

The way we see it, our wedding is a way to publicly celebrate our union, but also, excitingly, to throw a party for friends and family where we can gather as many important people from our lives in one place and have them meet each other.

We know you all and can't imagine that you aren't going to have a blast in each other's company, no matter if the cake falls over into the punch.

We sure hope you can make it!

This main home webpage, where you are now, is where we will post updates and items of interest as they occur to us. They are organized with the most recent posts at the top of the page.

Notice that there are links at the top of the page, just under the title image, to other pages that address specific topics such as "Places to Stay". Please explore, and hopefully the information we place on these pages will be useful to you.

Thanks again,

Xo,
H+L

Lurve on Film

Our wedding photographer included a pre-wedding photo shoot into the deal, so Lisa and I had an evening with the paparazzi.
Here are a few of the results:

August in Oregon

As the ceremony is scheduled for an outdoor location, some information about the weather might be useful.

August in Oregon averages around 79-80 degrees during the day, fluctuations of course exist.
Often, the nice warm days cool off to a pleasantly cool temperature at night, so a light extra layer for after dark is a good idea.
There is an average rainfall of 0.03 inches for August, so you'll have a hard time believing the rainy Portland rumors (knock on wood).

Though it is an evening wedding, we are not asking for Formal Attire. Dress up a bit please, but be comfortable. The suggested range would encompass Dressy Casual to Cocktail Attire to After Five Attire. If you happen to be a Scot, please either weight the kilt or go with some boxers under there.

New Annotated Map!

We have added a convenient annotated map to the bottom of the pages "Ceremony", "Places to Stay", "Portland food & Drink", and "Portland Things to Do".

Hotels are marked in Blue.
Food & Drink are marked in Yellow.
Things to Do are marked in Purple.

The wedding site is also marked, as well as the way to get there from the Ace Hotel (if you are not riding the bus we are arranging).

Acupuncture for the Wedding Site

We've taken the extraordinary step of having acupuncture performed on our wedding site to make sure the Chi is flowing smoothly. Or something like that. Cheetos flowing smoothly?

Yes, that's a 35'-0" needle.

Actually, this is an art installation with giant needles all over town, performing an "adjustment" for Portland.
Artist Adam Kuby.

They will be gone by the time of the wedding.

Letterpress

We have both always appreciated the tactile quality of a letterpress-printed card.
The deep impression of the type in thick cotton paper.
The necessarily simplified graphics in limited colors.
The mix of ancient technique with modern graphics.
Portland has a nice scene of small artsy presses putting out original work, and when we needed cards, we more often than not bought from them.

So when it came time for the invitations, we were thinking letterpress.

But, honestly, neither of us were really clear on the details of how letterpress pieces were printed - we only knew we liked the end result. So step one was to become better informed; mainly, since we wanted to design our own cards, to know what our constraints were.
A bit of time on the web and it soon became clear that: despite the beautifully elaborate, hulking and heaving presses that you glimpse in the shops, the process was essentially a simple one.

Take a plate with your image on it, ink it, and press it really hard into a piece of paper.

Inspired by a couple examples of home-built presses on the web, and after finding a place to have plates made, we started thinking that we could do it ourselves.

And as the less-than-perfect results attest, we printed them ourselves, right on the dining room table.
Only slightly bending Lisa's car jack in the process.

We had fun doing it, and hope the effort excuses the irregularity.

Pink Snow

Cherry blossoms are covering everything right now!
When the wind gusts, there is a little pink blizzard.
