Portland has any number of hotels in whatever flavor suits your style and budget. Feel free to follow your bliss. As a starting point, however, we bring to your attention the following places that are some combination of: interesting, close to the festivities, or have a block of rooms on hold under our names.
We are doing our best to arrange special rates for wedding attendees so don't hesitate to ask them about it. If you get a better rate with (insert website here), or with your AARP card, by all means take it! Cheaper hotels can certainly be found outside of downtown, but we advise caution as transportation and parking then become an issue, and walking to food, amenities, and sights may not be possible. If you find the "hidden gem" you can ask us about it first to make sure you don't end up in Beaverton. If it is the only way for us to get you here - and we want you here! - then we might be able to find a couch for you to sleep on.
We plan to arrange group transportation to and from the wedding site, and the hotels below are most likely to be a prearranged pick-up point.
1022 SW Stark Street 503.546.8508
This is the hotel where reception will be held and where we will spend the wedding night. So, convenient to the festivities! A non-traditional hotel, each room is decorated by a different artist for better or worse. The style of the hotel has been called modern and bohemian. Many rooms have actual record players and a crate of albums. Stumptown Coffee is located in the lobby. It is a good deal for a standard room with a queen bed ($140 per night), and if you have nostalgia for European vacations and are willing to walk down the hall for the bathroom you can save an extra $45 ($95 per night with shared bath). There is also a unique "shared triple" room (3 double beds in a small room) that might be a fun budget solution for a few close friends. We have a block of rooms on-hold here until July 23rd - ask for them under our names.
400 SW Broadway 503.225.1717
Situated in the center of downtown Portland, a couple of blocks from the reception site, the Hotel Lucia is classic Portland hotel that has been stylishly renovated. Standard queen room ranges from $130 - $150. They will offer a 15% discount over the published rate if you mention our wedding and ask for the 'Celebrations' rate.
550 SW Oak Street 971.270.2245
Newly remodeled high-rise hotel in the center of downtown, a couple of blocks from the reception site. Stylish and fairly modern, you would never guess it is a Marriott. We have a block of 10 rooms set aside here for $109.
Marriott City Center
520 SW Broadway 503.226.6300
Within sight of Hotel Lucia, and 3 blocks to the Ace Hotel reception site. Lisa's mom stayed here recently and had a nice room with a good view. My parents just booked here and got a $99 rate from the website gtahotels.com.

614 Southwest 11th Avenue 503.224.3400
An ornate terracotta facade makes this grand hotel a Portland landmark, as well as placing it on the Historic Register. Understated elegance and luxury in the grand tradition of established upscale hotels. Located 2 blocks from the reception site. Rooms $170 - 350.

Other Hotels:
These are nice enough and central enough, but didn't seem to us to offer a compelling reason to stay there, price or other-wise. Maybe you'll think differently, or score a deal:
Hotel Vintage Plaza (Klimpton)
Hotel Monaco (Klimpton)
The Benson Hotel
These are also nice hotels, but not quite as central or convenient:
Hotels to avoid:
The Jupiter Hotel (looks cool and hip, but is dirty and loud)
Getting Here and Around:
It is possible to fly into Portland, and take the light rail train (Max Red Line, $2.30, 50 minutes) from the airport into the City center, where you will be just 2-4 small blocks to the hotels we have listed.
From there, you can walk to many things to do and to food and drink, without much effort at all.
We are arranging bus transportation from the hotels to the ceremony (10 mins away) and then the reception. The reception is central to the hotels. A train ride back to airport and no car was needed!
A cab from the airport to downtown costs about $30, and takes about 15 minutes.
A car rental, while not necessary, is worth it if you plan to stay an extra day or two. You will be able to drive out to the coast, up Mt. Hood, or through the Columbia River Gorge.
Another fun option for a few of you would be to rent bikes for your stay. Portland is extremely bike friendly, with dedicated bike lanes all over the place. Riding along the river in a loop around east bank esplanade is easy and isolated from car traffic (though thick with pedestrians). Riding around the downtown is still not a novice endeavor, so make sure you are comfortable on a bike close to traffic. The ride across the river and up to Mt. Tabor Park where our ceremony will be held is a beautiful one, and not too difficult for the moderately fit, mostly on minor car roads. You probably will sweat though on the uphill run of about 250 ft elevation gain. Bike Route Link. Bike Rentals: 1, 2
