Ceremony
Wedding Ceremony
The wedding ceremony, weather willing, will be an outdoor ceremony. It will take place in Mt. Tabor Park, just to the east (uphill) of the middle reservoir; see map which follows.
The ceremony begins at 6:30 pm, on Saturday, August 21.
We are providing a bus to transport for out of town guests from the downtown hotels to the ceremony, and then back downtown to the reception. The bus will drop people off (and pick back up) at the hairpin turn just west of the reservoir. For those driving themselves, parking details follow below.
There is a shortish walk around the reservoir to reach the wedding location; approximately 600 yards. The path is fairly level with a slight rise, and 2/3 paved with 1/3 packed gravel pathway. Most shoes should be just fine, but pointy heels may not be easiest to manage. We will have a couple of pedicabs standing by for those who might want a ride. There is a nice view of Portland along the way.
The weather is likely to be warm. We will have water available for everyone at the wedding site.
The ceremony site is exposed to the late afternoon sun, but right next to shady trees. Depending on the temperature and sun intensity, we may shift it over into the shade if it seems more ideal.
There will be very limited seating, given the park location. We will have just a few seats for family and those who may require it. The ceremony is expected to be about 20 minutes, so hopefully standing does not present a challenge for anyone. Please let us know if it does.
Restroom facilities are available near the parking lot, but do please note that it is a good 10 minute walk from the wedding site.
Car parking is available in limited quantity along the road near the bus drop-off. The largest lot is further up the road a ways, near the picnic shelters and playground. More parking is available further up past the playground. As it is a summer weekend, parking may be hard to come by. Many people line the roads where they can.
Note that if you park in one of the lots or anywhere other than the hairpin turn/bus drop off, you will be approaching the wedding site from a different direction than shown on the map. It should be fairly intuitive to find the large central reservoir, but we plan to put up some directional signs to help you find the right pathway.
In the event of inclement weather, the back-up wedding ceremony location is at the reception site at the Ace Hotel.
Mt. Tabor was chosen as our ceremony location because it is one of our favorite places in Portland. We both go there regularly for exercise, or to just take a walk with the dog. The trees are large, the view is nice, fun summer activities abound, and it just happens to be an extinct volcano.

The Reception
After the wedding ceremony, we will be hosting a reception at "The Cleaners" at the Ace Hotel. The Cleaners is an old storefront space on the corner of SW 10th & Stark, which used to be a drycleaner's business - hence the name. You enter the venue directly off the sidewalk - no need to go into the hotel itself - the entry is pretty self apparent from the corner.
Many of you will be dropped off right in front if you ride the bus down from the wedding.
There will be food and drink and music and dancing and photos and laughter and whatever else we can stir up.
Do please note that the food will be heavy hors d'œuvre, not a sit-down dinner, though we plan to have plenty to go around. The two of us are going to make a meal of it, and expect that you will too. If you are all worried about it, you might want to consider a late lunch/very early dinner. The food will be catered by Clyde Common, so we anticipate it to be delicious. And of course there is always dessert....
